Sergeant John Ordway, from Hebron, NH, was third in command of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Today the best Master Sergeant in the US Army is annually awarded the John Ordway Award and in 2007 the Army erected a statue of Sergeant Ordway at Fort Lewis, Washigton, the only statue of an enlisted man ever erected by the US Army.
