203 butterflies from Kengtung State, Southern Shan States, Burma. Captured and accurately painted by Major/Squadron Leader JGP Drummond MC who, in 1921, was posted to Loimwe and, finding that it was the rainy season AND the close season for shooting, turned his attentions to smaller game... butterflies. Major Drummond wrote a forward to accompany his stunning artwork as well as including copies of some of the correspondence he entered into. A number of the original butterflies are now housed in the London Natural History Museum and at the premises of the Bombay Natural History Society.

Major Drummond's artwork is second to none. The butterflies must have been painted from observations made through magnifying glass and the originals are all life-size. Many of the identifications were made from these paintings and Major Drummond was the first to publish descriptions of some of his captures. And at least one was the first ever caught.

This book represents a unique record of Burmese butterflies from an area of the Southern Shan States from both a natural history point of view and as objects of art - and this electronic copy has been produced specifically to preserve Major Drummond's tremendous work. It also makes this work available to the world - while the beautifully bound original takes pride of place in the Drummond household.
