Dreaming of Rocky Mountain National Park tells the story of Orion the Owl, who does not want to go to sleep. But when he does doze off, he dreams that he can travel back in time. Orion goes on several journeys and sees dinosaurs, woolly mammoths, and Native Americans. Each of Orion's adventures is based on real events that occurred in and around Rocky Mountain National Park.
About the "Dreaming of" series of books:
History can be a challenging subject to teach to young children. That's why Grant Collier and Stephanie Lowman decided to use time-traveling animals to turn historical events into exciting adventures.
"I came up with the idea for a series of children s books back in 2010," says Collier. "But sadly, I was unable to illustrate them, because the dinosaurs I drew looked more like giant, green giraffes. Fortunately, Stephanie Lowman is a superb artist, and I was able to hire her to do illustrate the books."
Grant blended Stephanie's illustrations with his own photos in order to create life-like scenes. This turned out to be quite the challenging task. Their illustrations and writing have evolved over the years, culminating in their two newest books "Dreaming of Rocky Mountain National Park" and "Dreaming of California."
