Understanding Antiblackness: An

Antiblackness refers to the entrenched system of racism and discrimination specifically targeting Black people. Unlike general racism, antiblackness is characterized by the unique dehumanization and marginalization of Black individuals. It manifests in various spheres of life, including education, employment, criminal justice, and healthcare. Over the years, Jung's meticulous research has shown that antiblackness not only affects individual lives but also shapes broader societal structures.

The historical roots of antiblackness can be traced back to slavery and colonialism, where Black people were brutally exploited and treated as mere property. These deeply entrenched power dynamics still reverberate in modern society, perpetuating inequalities and inhibiting the potential for equal opportunities.

The Intersections of Antiracism and Antiblackness

Jung's research expertly navigates the complexities of antiblackness within the broader context of antiracism. While antiracism endeavors to challenge and dismantle racism as a whole, it is crucial to recognize that antiblackness requires specific attention due to the unique experiences and forms of oppression faced by Black individuals.

By drawing attention to the intersections of antiblackness and other forms of discrimination, such as misogynoir (misogyny directed specifically towards Black women) and colorism, Jung emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing the multi-faceted nature of racial inequality. Her work encourages individuals, institutions, and policymakers to undertake concrete steps towards dismantling antiblackness and creating a more inclusive society.

Implications of Antiblackness: A Call to Action

The consequences of antiblackness are far-reaching and deeply rooted in society. From biased law enforcement practices to healthcare disparities, the impacts of antiblackness are particularly visible in the United States as well as other parts of the world. Jung's research acts as a clarion call to address and rectify these systemic injustices.

As society becomes increasingly aware of these hidden realities, the need for structural change becomes imperative. Moon Kie Jung's work serves as a catalyst for important conversations, policy reforms, and grassroots movements dedicated to combatting antiblackness.

The Road Ahead: A More Inclusive Future

Moon Kie Jung's pioneering research on antiblackness opens the door for individuals, communities, and institutions to challenge their own biases and actively engage in creating a more inclusive future. By acknowledging the nuances of antiblackness and working towards dismantling its deeply ingrained mechanisms, we pave the way for a society built on equality, justice, and dignity for all.

Moon Kie Jung's unrivaled dedication to shedding light on the hidden realities of antiblackness sets her apart as a transformative figure in the fight against systemic racism. Through her work, we are able to confront the uncomfortable truths that lie at the core of antiblackness and gather the strength to effectuate lasting change.

Antiblackness investigates the ways in which the dehumanization of Black people has been foundational to the establishment of modernity. Drawing on Black feminism, Afropessimism, and critical race theory, the book's contributors trace forms of antiblackness across time and space, from nineteenth-century slavery to the categorization of Latinx in the 2020 census, from South Africa and Palestine to the Chickasaw homelands, from the White House to convict lease camps, prisons, and schools. Among other topics, they examine the centrality of antiblackness in the of Carolina rice to colonial India, the presence of Black people and Native Americans in the public discourse of precolonial Korea, and the practices of denial that obscure antiblackness in contemporary France. Throughout, the contributors demonstrate that any analysis of white supremacy---indeed, of the world---that does not contend with antiblackness is incomplete.
