Inverness To Marrakesh And Back With Our Caravan Caravan Travels
Have you ever dreamed of embarking on an epic road trip that takes you from the breathtaking landscapes of Inverness to the exotic charm of Marrakesh? Well, this is exactly what my partner and I did recently, and let me tell you, it was a journey of a lifetime.
As avid caravan travelers, we have always been fascinated by the idea of exploring new places at our own pace, with the freedom to stop wherever we like and experience the true essence of each destination. So when we decided to take on the challenge of driving all the way from Inverness to Marrakesh and back, we knew we were in for an adventure like no other.
The Journey Begins: From Inverness to Marrakesh
We started our journey from Inverness, a city known for its stunning castles, scenic beauty, and rich history. After loading up our caravan with all the essentials, we hit the road, ready to conquer the miles that lay ahead.

Our first stop was Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland. With its iconic Edinburgh Castle, lively atmosphere, and historic streets, it was the perfect place to begin our adventure. We spent a couple of days exploring the city, immersing ourselves in its vibrant culture and indulging in traditional Scottish delicacies.
From there, we continued south, making our way through the breathtaking landscapes of England. The Lake District, with its tranquil lakes and picturesque villages, stole our hearts and we couldn't resist spending a few days there, soaking in the natural beauty and enjoying long walks in the countryside.
Next on our route was the vibrant city of London. We couldn't miss the opportunity to explore its famous landmarks such as the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the vibrant markets of Camden Town. The hustle and bustle of the city provided a stark contrast to the serene countryside we had left behind.
After bidding farewell to England, we boarded a ferry from Portsmouth to Caen, which marked the beginning of our European leg of the journey. Driving through France was a delight, as we passed by charming villages, vineyards, and iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum in Paris.
As we continued south, crossing the stunning landscapes of Spain, we couldn't help but be captivated by the beauty of the Mediterranean coast. The turquoise waters, golden sandy beaches, and quaint coastal towns were truly a sight to behold.
Finally, after weeks of traveling through Europe, we reached our ultimate destination - the vibrant city of Marrakesh in Morocco.
Experiencing the Magic of Marrakesh
Marrakesh is a city like no other, with its bustling souks, stunning palaces, and vibrant street life. We parked our caravan at a nearby camping site and immersed ourselves in the magical atmosphere of the city.
One of the highlights of our stay in Marrakesh was exploring the famous Jardin Majorelle, a lush garden oasis filled with exotic plants and vibrant colors. The tranquil setting provided a welcome escape from the bustling streets and allowed us to relax and recharge after the long journey.
Another must-visit spot in Marrakesh is the historic medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with narrow labyrinthine streets, bustling markets, and stunning architecture. We spent hours getting lost in the maze-like alleys, discovering hidden gems, and indulging in delicious Moroccan cuisine.
The Journey Back: From Marrakesh to Inverness
After spending a few unforgettable days in Marrakesh, it was time to start our journey back to Inverness. We retraced our steps, driving through the beautiful landscapes of Spain, France, and England, cherishing the memories we had created along the way.
Each stop on our return journey offered a new adventure. We explored the picturesque towns of Ronda and Toledo in Spain, visited the iconic Mont Saint-Michel in France, and enjoyed the stunning coastal views of the English Riviera.
As we crossed the Scottish border and made our way back to Inverness, we couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. On one hand, we were sad that our epic journey was coming to an end, but on the other hand, we were filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude for the incredible experiences we had shared.
The Takeaway: Caravan Travel at its Best
Embarking on a journey from Inverness to Marrakesh and back with our caravan was an experience we will never forget. It allowed us to discover new places, immerse ourselves in different cultures, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Caravan travel offers a unique way to explore the world, providing the freedom to travel at your own pace and the flexibility to create your own adventure. Whether you dream of driving across continents or exploring the hidden gems of your own country, caravan travel is a great way to make your travel dreams come true.
So, if you're ready to embark on an adventure of a lifetime, pack up your caravan, choose a destination, and hit the road. Who knows? You might just discover a whole new world of possibilities.

In January 2020 we set off from our home in the northern Scottish Highlands (north of Inverness actually, but that would have made the title too long) with our Swift Challenger 635 TA caravan on a 5,672 mile epic journey that would take us to Marrakesh and back. We set off in foul wet weather one morning and two weeks later we crossed the Straights of Gibraltar and drove off the ferry into a warm and sunny Africa (well it was wet when we arrived but it got sunny a a couple of days later)!
It was an incredible, exciting, and at times stressful trip that saw us tour Morocco from Tangier to Marrakesh and the foot hills of the Atlas Mountains, return to Europe via Spain, settle, so we thought, in The Algarve, get evicted from Portugal due to the Corvid-19 virus, and make a madcap dash back to the UK via Spain and France in just 4 days wild camping overnight at truck stops, followed by towing the length of the UK in just 2 days!
During the journey I kept a travel journal detailing the highs and lows, the adventures and escapades of a couple of fairly novice caravanners, as we threw caution to the wind and took our caravan to another continent and back.
On returning home I have added a guide to taking your caravan to Morocco to the journal, detailing how to get from Europe to Morocco, an itinerary suitable for towing a caravan in this wonderful country, a guide to the campsites we used and lots of information that will help you enjoy your trip there. The guide and the journal are both illustrated with photographs taken on the trip. There are also links to YouTube videos showing the routes into some of the campsites we used and others you may find of interest and help.
The journal begins with our first idea of taking our caravan to Morocco, why we changed our caravan, the equipment that we took, the maps and guides and the plan that we set off with.
