Okay, I know the title of the book is a bit cheeky, but hey, when you read it you'll understand why I titled the book in that fashion. Sin Sot is related to marriage in Thailand, so anyone that it is considering marriage to a Thai lady has to know what Sin Sot is, and what it involves. 

Sin Sot, which is a form of dowry, is one of the most divisive topics among expatriates with experience in Thailand. It brings together a perfect storm of self-delusion, emotional blackmail, grandiose expectation, and cold-hearted calculation.  

Cold-hearted calculation, you ask? That's correct. I can say with confidence that the sooner sin sot is mentioned to you in your relationship, the better it is for you. It is the first and best indicator that your lady is only after you for your money. Casually ask how much the sin sot would be, and the higher the figure, the more contempt your lady has for you. It's as simple as that. There's a saying in Thailand which goes, "farang roo ma, mai dee." The literal translation is, "the foreigner knows too much, not good." Just two weeks ago I was asked to speak to a prospective husband about the terms and conditions attached to his forthcoming marriage. Much to the fury of his intended wife, he cancelled the wedding after talking to me. Everything I told him was verified by Thais independent of his wife. The last straw was when one of the Thais actually collapsed laughing. Don't be an idiot. Read this book and understand the history and procedure of sin sot. And further, learn what the modern interpretation of this ancient practice. By the time you put the book down, you'll have more than a clue about how to conduct yourself on this issue. And that's the reason I wrote this book. So those good men who consider marriage to a Thai lady cannot be abused for their ignorance. And please, gentlemen, don't get me wrong. I know plenty of men who have enjoyed long and successful marriages to Thai ladies. I'm not against the idea of you marrying - I'm against the idea of you being taken for a fool.
