Crochet is a very old practice of creating fabric from thread or yarn using the crochet hook. The practice is a very old one and can be traced back into history. It was a handcraft for women for an extended period of time. It slowly passed out of favor thanks to the Industrial Revolution. However, it is seeing a rise in popularity in mainstream culture thanks to the greater emphasis in handcrafts that has been popular lately.
Crocheted fabric is created by pulling loops of material through other loops. A crochet hook is used to facilitate this process. Depending on the stitch, the thread or yarn may be wrapped around the crochet hook multiple times. Unlike knitting, crocheters only focus on one stitch at a time. With knitting all the stitches on the needle will be worked. Crochet doesn’t do this. There are a few special forms of crochet that will have more than one stitch active at a time. However, in general only one stitch is active.
Much like knitting, crocheting has its own set of symbols to represent stitch types. This helps save Time in creating patterns for crocheters. With a little bit of practice and study you can become immensely skilled in the art of crochet. The possibilities of what you can create are endless.
This book will provide you with a basic to the history of crochet, the equipment, yarn weights, some basic stitches that are good for beginners and some tips and tricks to help you along the way. Once you have mastered the things in this book you will be ready to move on to even more challenging crochet projects. We hope you have fun and it just starts a lifelong passion for creating amazing masterpieces of crochet.
