My husband and I, who have traveled a total of five years around the world, spent three weeks in New Zealand; two weeks in the picturesque South Island, Christchurch, Aoraki on the Coast, Canterbury Plains, Queenstown and Milford Sound and one week on North Island. Many names over the past 10 to 20 years have changed back to Maori names such as Mt. Cook which is now called Aoraki as the highest mountain in New Zealand. Even though the mountain is named after Captain Cook, he never saw the mountain. If you can afford a helicopter, the ride up to a pristine glacier is worthwhile. With only a small population, under 4 million, New Zealand has wide open spaces to enjoy the wonder of nature. We have looked forward all our lives to coming to New Zealand and it did not disappoint.
