Have you ever wondered what it would be like to embark on a journey through the enigmatic landscapes of the Middle East? From ancient archaeological sites to bustling markets, this region is filled with captivating stories waiting to be discovered. Join us as we explore the mystical allure of the Middle East, where chaos and contradictions weave a tapestry of unforgettable experiences.

The Road Less Traveled

As adventurers seeking the unknown, we often find solace in the path less traveled. The Middle East, with its rich history and distinct culture, offers an opportunity to step outside our comfort zones and immerse ourselves in a world both foreign and familiar. From the stunning pyramids of Egypt to the rose-red city of Petra in Jordan, every corner of the Middle East holds a trove of hidden wonders waiting to be uncovered.

The smell of spices lingers in the air as you wander through the labyrinthine streets of bustling markets, haggling with merchants over exquisite handcrafted souvenirs. The cacophony of sounds engulfs you as you navigate through the narrow alleyways of Marrakech's medina, where snake-charmers and storytellers captivate passing crowds. Each step takes you deeper into a world where time seems to stand still, and the past intertwines with the present.

Landscapes That Defy Imagination

From the vast deserts of Saudi Arabia to the cascading hills of Cappadocia in Turkey, the landscapes of the Middle East are as diverse as its people. Imagine drifting peacefully over the lunar-like landscape of Wadi Rum in a hot air balloon, the fiery hues of the sandstone cliffs painting an otherworldly backdrop. Or standing in awe at the edge of the Dead Sea, where the buoyancy of the water allows you to effortlessly float while taking in the breathtaking views of Israel and Jordan.

Eager to push your limits even further? Strap on your hiking boots and embark on an adventure through the ancient ruins of the lost city of Palmyra in Syria or explore the hidden trails of the mesmerizing Sultanate of Oman. The possibilities are endless, offering thrill-seekers a chance to experience the Middle East like never before.

A Culinary Journey Through Time

One cannot truly understand a culture without indulging in its culinary delights. Middle Eastern cuisine, with its vibrant flavors and aromatic spices, takes your taste buds on a captivating journey through time. Sample traditional mezze platters in Lebanon, comprising of mouth-watering hummus, falafel, and tabbouleh. Feast on succulent kebabs served with fragrant saffron rice in Iran, or savor the delicate rosewater-infused pastries of Turkey.

But the Middle East isn't just about the food; it's about the people. The warmth and hospitality of its inhabitants are legendary, making every dining experience not just a meal but a chance to forge lasting connections. Chat with locals in traditional Bedouin tents while sipping on sweet, aromatic tea, or engage in lively debates over a cup of Turkish coffee in the vibrant cafes of Istanbul. It's in these moments that you realize the Middle East is not just a destination but a sensation that lingers long after you've returned home.

Chaos and Contradictions

The Middle East is a region of chaos and contradictions, where ancient traditions exist alongside modern aspirations. In the United Arab Emirates, you can marvel at futuristic skyscrapers rising from the desert sands, only to get lost in the vibrant chaos of traditional spice markets moments later. In Egypt, you can stand in awe at the grandeur of the Great Pyramids, testimony to the ingenuity of an ancient civilization, while hearing the calls to prayer echo through the bustling streets of Cairo.

As you explore the Middle East, you'll witness both the struggles and triumphs of its people. From the resilient Palestinian children flying kites amidst the backdrop of a divided city to the Syrian refugees rebuilding their lives in Jordan, the Middle East is filled with stories of resilience, hope, and the indomitable human spirit.

Going mad in the Middle East is not about losing your sanity; it's about embracing the madness and beauty this region has to offer. From its mystical allure to its captivating landscapes and sumptuous cuisine, the Middle East has a way of leaving an indelible mark on those who dare to venture here. It's a place where chaos and contradictions converge, painting a vibrant and compelling canvas for those eager to immerse themselves in its wonders.

So, pack your bags, fuel your curiosity, and embark on an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Middle East. You may come as a traveler but rest assured, you'll leave as a storyteller.

The fifth true travelogue in this best-selling series of the trouble prone eccentric who is not quite sane. Nick is back in Kuwait but he has left A’Takamul School and is working at the Ministry of Defence. He is still running his illegal dance club and upsetting the authorities with his campaigning on behalf of the Bedoon. True to form Nick’s penchant for getting into trouble follows him around: he is kidnapped at gunpoint, banned from ever using Emirates Airlines again, dances with a princess, is nearly flattened by a bulldozer, has to hide in the desert and is forced to smuggle himself and the omnipresent Emad into Iraq. All these incidents have the seeds of fiction in them but they are amazingly true, but Nick’s sardonic view of everything going on around him can bring humour to any situation. His relationships with the opposite sex once again lead to trouble but this time he meets a girl who is to become his wife and they run off to Bangkok to get married.
The first in this exciting series: Going Around the Bend on the QE2. The second: Not Quite Sane in America. The third: Losing my Marbles in LA and the fourth: Going Crackers in Kuwait are all available on Amazon/Kindle.
